Everything that Goes into Becoming, a series of oil paintings, layers the fertile void spaces of becoming, with plant imagery.
Making this work in a period, where I am also transitioning into creating energetically infused objects and rituals inspired by my training as an energy medicine healer. All of the chromatic blacks and browns, mixed with all the leftover tubes of paint from previous series, invoke a ritual of alchemizing the traces of the past, [literally ] into new [painted] ground. I wanted to create a meditative field, through the textured blacks and browns, working with patterns created from brushstroke and reflection of light. Some paintings exist only as this pregnant cosmic void, others are layered with floral and plant imagery. They offer an invitation to dream with the plants in our surroundings, to become soft and receptive to hearing our intuition, and the spirits of plants signalling, attuning to us through their visible and invisible signals. To remember that plants are at the centre of life in the material world. Acting, as their own energy producers, though photosynthesis, able to create signals attracting what they need for survival [from pollinators, to the fungi, bacteria and insects that help create soil and minerals], balancing air and water, and creating food and shelter for other beings. Plant agency remains, whether or not we remember the medicine in plants and in plant spirits, I do believe they hold within them the keys to regeneration and adaptation to the changes and challenges we currently face.
